Maintenance Projects
Throughout each year, the volunteers at the Great Laxey Mine Railway carry out various maintenance projects. These may be track maintenance such as replacing worn out rails or fishplates to repainting fences. Since the railway was restored, many of these projects have been carried out to improve the facilities for our visitors or the staff such as the installation and modification of the station buildings which were donated by the Isle of Man Bus and Rail. These were originally bus shelters which had become surplus to their requirements but which needed to have doors added (in the case of the Valley Gardens building) so as to be able to make the building and its contents secure.
Many of the projects by their nature have to be carried out in our closed season (November to Easter) such as replacement of track sections and maintenance to Locomotives and rolling stock.
In this gallery are a few photographs of some of these projects carried out over the years as well as current projects.
